Working with files

Some modules work with files. They either return an output file or require a file to be passed to them for further processing.

Mapping a file

Every module that works with files requires two pieces of information:

  1. file name
  2. file content (data)

When you map a file, you choose from which module(s) in your scenario you want to obtain data from. The file name and file content are then automatically taken "as they stand." However, it can happen that you want to rename the file, but want to keep the data as it is. In such case, use the Map option to map the file name and file content independently of each other.

You must always enter the full file name, including the ending (e.g. invoice.xml). Both binary (photos, videos, PDF and the like) and text formats are supported.

Maximum file size

The maximum file size limit is 50 MB. If it is exceeded, Integromat proceeds in accordance with the settings of the Enable data loss option.

Example: Connecting Instagram to Dropbox

The example below shows how to connect Instagram to Dropbox. The Instagram trigger Watch a user returns detailed information about each downloaded photo, including its name and content (data). The Dropbox action Upload a file requires that you specify a target folder and source file. Just select the Instagram option and Integromat will automatically map the file name and file content. From now on, all photos from Instagram will be downloaded to the specified Dropbox folder.
